Summary

notice_summary_english: Cumbria County Council delivered a shared use cycle footway adjacent to the southbound carriageway of Burton Road between Oxenholme and Kendal in 2018. The design was produced prior to the introduction of LTN 01/20 cycle design standards.
The shared use cycle/footway crosses Natland Mill Beck Lane, a minor arm of a roundabout that principally services a retail park, know locally as the Asda Roundabout.
The current arrangement has created a pinch point at the at the provided dropped kerbs for cyclists and pedestrian users and has led to conflict with motor vehicles.
There is some concern of the speed of approach for south bound cyclists to the junction due to the gradient, which may be intimidating to other users.
This commission is to review the current arrangements and produce a range of design options together with a report. The options to be considered should aim to provide a positive experience for all users.
