The Nile Basin Initiative has received a grant from the World Bank’s Nile Basin Trust Fund for implementation of the NELSAP Regional Agricultural Trade and Productivity (RATP2) Project and intends to apply a portion of funds to eligible payments under the contract for consulting services.

The services include training of the NBI on the methodologies and technical knowhow on the concepts of virtual water/water foot print involving the development of methodology and tools for analysis and documentation; preparation of training materials and modules; and the training of participants from the NB countries. The training is to be followed by the actual accounting of the virtual water/water foot print for major exportables and importables and creation of awareness of the concept and related issues in each of the nine member countries of the Nile Basin. As a whole the consultancy runs through a period of eight (8) months effective November 2010.

The firm should have experience in the development of methodologies and tools for the analysis and documentation of the virtual water/ water footprint; as well as in research and analytical presentation. The firm should demonstrate presence of skills in; training materials /modules preparation and the capacity building; report writing and preparation of policy briefs & awareness creation materials, especially for developing countries. The expertise required for this assignment includes a water footprint analysis & documentation expert, agro economist, water & trade specialists, socio/political analyst, and training expert.

The NELSAP/Regional Agricultural Trade and Productivity (RATP2) Project, now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services; interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff etc.) Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.

Selection will be in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank’s guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (published by the Bank in May 2004; revised in October 2006, revised May 2010).
