7. Contract description
The objective is to enhance awareness on the value of energy management among SMEs in the priority sectors (agro-industry, processing/manufacturing, building materials, construction, tourism...) with the view to improve their energy consumption and improve their competitiveness, thus ensuring long term sustainability of effective energy usage. The programme will assist selected SMEs in Southern Africa region to implement appropriate energy saving measures and adoption of best practices on efficient energy management.

The main activities:
Activity I: Implementation of EE measures in the previous participating countries (Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia) and scaling-up
Activity II: Setting-up of the Programme in the three other countries (Lesotho, Malawi, and Swaziland).

For activity I countries, the Consultants’ team will assist the beneficiary SMEs (5) for the implementation of Actions Plans in each enterprise (follow-up, monitoring), scaling up the programme in the targeted countries (15 additional SME’s), facilitating access to financing SME’s in this sector.

For activity II countries, the assignment objectives are to: i) evaluate the potential of energy efficiency market in the SME sector; ii) identification of 20 SME’s for each country in the selected sectors which will benefit on the programme, (iii) Energy audit and definition of an action plan, (iv) including the range of investment needed, (v) implementation of Actions Plans in each enterprise (follow-up, monitoring), (vi) facilitating access to financing SME’s in this sector.
