Basic Education Project – Phase II
GENERAL PROCUREMENT NOTICE
Credit No. 4598-UZ

The Republic of Uzbekistan has received financing in the amount of US$ 28 000,00 equivalent from the World Bank toward the cost of the Second Phase of Basic Education Project, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project.

The project will include the following components:
Component 1. Providing Learning Materials and Resources for Grades Five through Nine. The objective of this component is to improve the quality of teaching and learning in project schools through effective use learning materials and resources acquired under the project.
Component 2. Strengthening School-Based Training for Teachers and Directors in Schools and Preschools. The objective of this component is to change teaching in project schools and preschools towards a more interactive student-centered approach to improve learning outcomes.
Component 3. Strengthening School Boards and Providing Competitive Grants to Selected Schools for School Improvement. The objective of this component is to increase further the involvement of school boards in project schools and provide competitive funding for school improvement.
Component 4. Improving Education Financing, Budgeting and Management. The objective of this component is to improve education financing, budgeting and school management in selected oblasts.
Component 5: Support for Project Management and Results Management. The objective of this component is to implement national assessment of student learning and evaluate project effectiveness.

Procurement of contracts financed by the World Bank will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits (published in May 2004 and revised in October, 2006), and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (current edition).

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank’s international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for contracts for consultancy services will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business and dgMarket.
