Georgia has applied for a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to be onlent to Enguhresi Ltd which intends using the proceeds for a project to improve power water operational safety and enhance the environmental benefits of the Enguri Hydro Power Plant and downstream Vardnili hydro power plants cascade.
The initial stage of the project which consisted of the Enguri dam rehabilitation and first works at the power plant million is now completed.
This subsequent phase of the project which has a total estimated cost of about Euro 40 million equivalent required the procurement of the following goods, works and services:
Civil Works Contract for rehabilitation of the Vardnili 1 Dam and spillways rehabilitation of hydraulic;
Supply and Installation contract for the rehabilitation of the two last units at Enguri;
Supply of goods and associated services for the clearing and dredging of the Vardnili channel;
Supply of goods and associated services for safety equipment at the Vardnili 1 dam; and
Consulting services both local and international for the works supervision.
Tendering for the above contracts is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2010.
Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to the Bank's 'Procurement Policies and Rules' and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank's loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, of for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser's country.
