semi-permanent installation that will show the best of its existing, and
any new collections that it intends to assemble in the run up to its move
to a remodelled former Commonwealth Institute that will be its new home.
This will be an important visitor attraction, introducing non-specialist
visitors to the concept of contemporary industrial design of all kinds,
and contemporary architecture. At the same time, the installation, which
will include objects of all kinds and scales, will need to be sufficiently
authoritative to reflect the museum’s international role as the leading
institution of its kind. The collection will sit alongside the museum’s
temporary galleries that will stage a regular programme of paid for
exhibitions. The display will need to work within the context of an
architecturally distinguished listing building, and with the vision of the
museum’s architect to carry out a respectful remodelling of the interior.
The Exhibition Designer will be required to work alongside the design team
and other specialist consultants in order to provide a permanent
exhibition design that is compatible with the base build design and to
