RECOVERY PROJECT DISCRIPTION: Ottawa National Forest Mine Closures-Upper Peninsula Michigan Phase II Project, in Ontonagon County, Michigan. To complete the Mine Closure-Upper Peninsula Michigan-Phase II--Closure of abandoned mine openings. This Project is to close up to twenty one mine openings; remove eight post and pole exclosure fences; and construct two new post and pole exclosure fences. Mine Closure-Upper Peninsula Michigan-Phase II--Closure of abandoned mine openings. PROJECT LOCATION: From Ironwood, Michigan drive east on US 2 approximately 10 miles east to Wakefield, MI. From Wakefield, drive northeast on M 28 approximately 20 miles to Bergland, Mi. The Ward and Metro sites are approximately 3 miles north east of Bergland off Forest Road (FR) 502; the Derby sites are approximately 5 miles north east of Bergland off FR 504-F; the Sharon and Clifton sites are approximately 8 miles north east of Bergland off FR-633; the Norwich sites are approximaely 20 miles north east of Bergland off FR-642; and the Tremont sites are approxiately 25 miles north east of Bergland off the Victoria Road. Use of supplied maps are imperative to reach each site. THIS PROJECT IS FUNDED IN WHOLE BY THE AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA). ****************************************************************************************************
