National framework agreement for the purchase and maintenance of blood
weigher/agitators.
II.2) TYPE OF CONTRACT AND PLACE OF DELIVERY OR OF PERFORMANCE: Supplies.

II.3) SHORT DESCRIPTION OF NATURE AND QUANTITY OR VALUE OF SUPPLIES OR
SERVICES: Blood agitators were implemented into the NHS blood and
transplant (NHSBT) donation environment in December 2003 to replace the
need for manual blood agitation and add to the effectiveness and
efficiency of the blood collection process.
The current agitators control the collection of a known quantity of blood
over a known period of time and mix and agitate the blood and
anti-coagulant during the collection period to prevent it clotting.
NHSBT now wish to investigate the technical enhancements that have been
made to agitators since 2003 with potential future suppliers. They will be
considered at a series of meetings with suppliers who respond to this PIN.
These meetings are planned to be held before the end of May 2010.
Once this process has been completed a specification will be produced to
be used for the next generation of agitator to be used within NHSBT. In
due course the specification will be advertised through the OJEU route.
