and operation of fibre to the premises (FTTP) pilot network. The pilot
project will see the construction of a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP)
network connecting homes and businesses in the City South Partnership area
of Manchester. The network will be an "open network" that will allow
service providers to provide consumers and businesses with next generation
digital services including super-fast Internet broadband services, digital
television, telephone and many other innovative and advanced services.

VI.1) CONTRACT RELATED TO A PROJECT AND/OR PROGRAMME FINANCED BY

VI.2) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The pilot phase will last initially until
31.3.2011 with an option to extend for up to 2 years. The Council reserve
the right to re-tender the contract after the initial contract period. The
city council is inviting respondents to make proposals concerning 2
network layers: the design and build of the physical passive network and
the commercial and technical operation of the active network.
Respondents are invited to submit proposals covering either one of these
layers, or both.
Quantities and descriptions in the tender are those used and required by
Manchester City Council. This Framework is open to and may be used by
other Local and North West Regional Authorities. This can include AGMA,
(Association of Greater Manchester Authorities), GMPTE (Greater Manchester
Passenger Transport Executive), NWEIP (North West Centre of Excellence)
and other local authorities throughout the country. Information relating
to the tender evaluation and instructions for return are contained within
the invitation to tender documents which are available from
www.thechest.nwce.gov.uk.
