5. Contracting authority: The European Union, represented by the European
Commission, on behalf of and for the account of the beneficiary country,
Kabul, THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF AFGHANISTAN.
6. Description of the contract: This project focuses on in-canal works in
13 secondary canals in Khanabad, in the lower reaches of the Taloqan
sub-basin of the Panj-Amu Basin, Afghanistan. The 13 secondary canals are
connected by 2 modern lined main canals, 4 canals on the right bank and 9
on the left bank. Water to the canals is supplied by intake gates and a
connection between the lined main canal and the earthen secondary canal.
However, the secondary canals are largely traditional earthen canals and
offtakes to tertiary canals are needed to be able to better distribute the
water. The project will exist of 90 sub-projects, 14 measurement flumes
and various weirs and offtakes, dividers and tertiary offtakes.
