Assignment Overview

Assignment Title: Ethiopia Case Study on Linkages between Gender, Poverty, Environment, and Infrastructure.

Assignment Description

The Objectives of the Assignment are to (a) map the relationship between gender, poverty, and environmental degradation in Ethiopia ,and the interface with infrastructure and other sustainable development programs, using existing survey and other data and identify key entry points to break the negative cycle; (b) document good practices in infrastructure and other sustainable development projects (including World Bank and other development organizations) in Ethiopia that have effectively addressed the gender-poverty poverty nexus; and (c) increase the knowledgebase on local women’s and men’s perceptions of the gender-poverty-environment nexus and it interface with infrastructure and other sustainable development programs as well as their views and practices regarding the best ways to turn the negative linkages into positive ones. The scope of the work includes but is not limited to Task 1: National/Regional Analysis of Gender Inequality, Poverty, and Environmental Degradation Data; Task 2: Good Practice Case Studies on Infrastructure, natural resource management; environment etc projects; Task 3: Rapid Appraisal of Local Perceptions of the Gender-Poverty-Environment Nexus; Task 4: Participatory Forums to Elicit Feedback on the Findings; Task 5: national workshop on Study Findings; and Task 6: Final Report. The study will commence in January and completed in July 2010.

The World Bank intends to finance the assignment/services described below under a trust fund from the BNPP-ENVIRONMENT: INTEGRATING GENDER EQUALITY, POVERTY RED. & ENVIRON. SUST. (GEPRES) STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK IN THE WB INFRAST. SECTOR.

Eligibility:
Eligibility Restrictions apply [Only national organizations/firms from Ethiopia will be selected for undertaking this study.]

The consultant will be a firm or consortium.

Submission Requirements:
The World Bank now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.).
Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.

Interested consultants are hereby invited to submit expressions of interest.

Expressions of Interest should be submitted, in English, electronically through World Bank Group eConsultant http://www.worldbank.org/wbgeconsultant.

Consultants will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the current edition of the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers.

Selection and contracting will normally be made from responses to this notification. The consultant will be selected from a shortlist, subject to availability of funding.
