II.1.4) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): The objective
of this study is to provide a detailed analysis of the situation of
mineral and organic phosphorus mainly, but not exclusively, at EU level so
as to provide the basis for considerations related to its future
sustainable use including re-use with a view to avoiding it becoming an
essentially scarce resource and limiting the introduction of contaminants
(mainly cadmium) in our environment. The analysis will help to understand
the environmental problems related to phosphorus use and the availability
of the resources. Further to this the study will be carried out in view of
contributing to future EU policy.
The specific objectives of the study are:
1. to investigate environmental sustainability in relation to phosphorus
use;
2. to provide responses to environmental problems arising from it; and
3. to provide recommendations to overcome these problems.
