Description

The Bureau maintains a network of field offices across the Australian continent, on neighbouring islands and in Antarctica.  Observations of upper level pressure, temperature, humidity, derived geopotential height, wind speed and wind directions, using a variety of equipment are taken at a network of 50 Bureau-staffed stations.

At 48 of these stations regular measurements of the upper atmosphere is taken using equipment attached to a balloon train.  Within this balloon train, a meteorological balloon filled with hydrogen carries a load comprising various instruments (the train) up to a height of 16-35 km depending on balloon size.

Other InstructionsThe Deed of Standing Offer will be in place for a period of three years from the Effective Date with two extension options for a period of 12 months each.
