INFORMATION ABOUT LOTS
LOT NO 1
TITLE: UK-York: provision of leasehold of the disposal of the Barbican
Auditorium, in York, for development
1) SHORT DESCRIPTION: City of York Council is seeking proposals for
delivery of a scheme to bring the York Barbican Auditorium back into
public use.
The Barbican Auditorium was previously operated by City of York Council as
a mixed leisure centre and auditorium. It was closed in May 2003.
The Council is seeking leasehold disposal of the Barbican Auditorium on a
term up to 250 years to a bidder capable of delivering a scheme which will
achieve the Council's following core requirements:
Venue and Facilities.
— A conference or entertainment venue with facilities to attract major
conferences and events and/or to provide a leisure / entertainment use.
Financial Impact.
— The payment of either a single capital sum or an annual rent for the
leasehold interest,
— Minimising any requirement on the part of the Council to provide capital
investment in the Barbican Auditorium with the bidder bringing capital
investment to the Barbican Auditorium facilities in order to deliver its
proposed scheme,
— Minimising any requirement on the part of the Council to provide a
revenue subsidy for any programme to be operated in the Barbican
Auditorium.
Civic Pride.
— Prestige facilities that will further the city's economic development
priorities, will host important city events and generally provide a focus
for civic pride.
Timescale.
— The Council is seeking to make substantive progress towards implementing
the scheme by December 2010.
Viable bidders.
— Bidders must be financially, and technically capable of delivering their
proposal.

LOT NO 2
TITLE: UK-York: provision of the sale of a development site, in kent
street, york
1) SHORT DESCRIPTION: The Council is also seeking bids in excess of GBP 1
000 000 for the freehold of a development site with a frontage to Kent
Street, near the Barbican Auditorium. This site has the benefit of
planning permission for a hotel and is offered as optional bid to the
leasehold disposal of the Barbican Auditorium.
