SPECIFIC PROCUREMENT NOTICE

INVITATION FOR BIDS

1. this Invitation for Bids follows the General Procurement Notice for this Project that appeared in United Nations Development Business No. 739 of 1 December 2008.

2. The Government of Botswana has applied for a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in various currencies towards the cost of Botswana - Morupule B Generation and Transmission Project. It is intended that part of the proceeds of this loan will be applied to eligible payments under the contract for Morupule B – Phokoje 400kV Transmission Line and Associated Works.

3. The Botswana Power Corporation now invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the construction and completion of Morupule B – Phokoje 400kV Transmission Line, Deviation of Morupule - Phokoje and Morupule - Serule 220kV Lines, Phokoje Substation 400kV Incomer Bay, Morupule B 400/220kV Intertie Transformer Bay and associated Civil Works Project (“the Facilities”). International competitive bidding will be conducted in accordance with the Bank's Single-Stage Bidding Procedure.

Minimum qualification requirements for eligibility to bid:

Minimum average annual turnover of US$ 50 million [Fifty million United States Dollars], within the last five (5) years.

Access to, or availability of, financial resources of at least US$ 12 million [Twelve million United States Dollars].

Participation in at least two (2) successful contracts within the last five (5) years each with a value of at least US$ 45 million [Forty Five Million United States Dollars], that are similar to the proposed Plant and Installation Services

A complete set of bidding documents may be purchased by interested bidders on the submission of a written application to the above and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of One Hundred and Ten Botswana Pula (BWP 110) or Twenty United States Dollars (US$ 20).

6. The provisions in the Instructions to Bidders and in the General Conditions of Contract are the provisions of the Bank Standard Bidding Document for Procurement of Plant Design, Supply, and Installation.

7. Bids must be delivered to Motlakase House, 1222 Macheng Way, Industrial Sites, Gaborone, Botswana on or before 12h00 Noon Local Time on 6 January 2010 and must be accompanied by a security of at least or not less than One Percent (1%) of Total Bid Amount in Botswana Pula or the currencies of the Bid price, or any freely convertible currency.

8. Bids will be opened in the presence of bidders’ representatives who choose to attend at 12h15 Noon Local Time on 6 January 2010 at the Supply Chain Management Conference Room, Motlakase House, 1222 Macheng Way, Industrial Sites, Gaborone, Botswana. Late bids will be rejected
