II.1) DESCRIPTION

II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): The Scottish
Prison Service (SPS) is an Agency of the Scottish Government Justice
Department and currently operates from 14 prison sites across Scotland. In
addition to the prison establishments, the SPS also operates a college, a
central store and an administrative headquarters building. SPS locations
range from Inverness & Peterhead in the north to Dumfries in the south.

The SPS wishes to establish a Contract to enable the supply and provision
of packaging materials to any SPS locations which require such goods. The
SPS would expect the supplier to assess and offer a viable range of value
for money products which meet the minimum performance specification
outlined in this Schedule B and Annex A to Schedule B. It is UK Government
policy to require that all timber is from legal sources. Further, where
possible, timber and wood derived products should be obtained from
sustainable sources. Timber and wood derived products in the context of
this Specification includes any product that contains wood or wood fibre
supplied to the SPS or used by the Supplier, their agents and
subcontractors in performance of the Services.
Historic SPS expenditure on packaging materials has been approximately 40
000 GBP per annum. The intention of this tender is to award a Contract for
a 2 year term with extension options. However, please note this figure is
a guideline only and annual expenditure may rise or fall dependent on
uptake. The SPS will not guarantee annual volumes for individual items
throughout its sites. Similarly, there will be no guarantee of minimum
order quantities or values.
The SPS is committed to improving its sustainability performance and
thereby minimising the effect of its operations on the environment. This
commitment is reflected in the SPS Sustainability Strategy

to support the SPS sustainability policy by, for example, providing energy
efficient products and through minimising and reducing packaging.

Description of these options: It is the intention of the SPS that any
Contract(s) resulting from this ITT will commence in January 2010 for a
period of 2 years with the option to extend for up to a further 2 years (2
+ 1 + 1).
II.3) DURATION OF THE CONTRACT OR TIME-LIMIT FOR COMPLETION: Starting:
1.1.2010. Completion: 31.12.2011.

matter of this notice.
