The U.S. Army, REDCOM, CC, Natick Contracting Division, Kansas Street, Natick, MA on behalf of the United States Navy, Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) Influenza Research Department 166, intends to negotiate and award a contract to Abbott Laboratories, Inc. (Abbott), D-A9CK, 1300 East Touhy Avenue, Des Plaines, IL 60018. The contract will be awarded pursuant to 10 U.S.C 2304(c)(1), FAR 6.302-1, Only One Responsible Source and No Other Suppliers or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements. The proposed contract is for the purchase of one T-6000 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) system and related support services, to support the detection and surveillance of swine influenza that is currently circulating in North America and has caused a national emergency. No other PCR system can analyze all 8 flu gene segments at once, and this equipment and support services are considered to be mission critical in performing this unique and important work for the Navy and DoD. As the sole source for T-6000 PCR equipment, the contract will be awarded to Abbott.
