SECTION II.A: OBJECT OF THE CONTRACT (WORKS)
II.1) TITLE ATTRIBUTED TO THE CONTRACT BY THE CONTRACTING AUTHORITY:
Athlone Main Drainage - Stage 3 - Site Investigations Contracts.
II.2) TYPE OF CONTRACT AND LOCATION OF WORKS: Main site or location of
works: Athlone.

II.4) SHORT DESCRIPTION OF NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORKS: Under the Athlone
Main Drainage – Stage 3 Scheme, Westmeath Co. Co. intends upgrading the
existing sewer network, provision of sewers to new development areas and
the extension of the existing waste water treatment plant from 30,000 to
60,000 P.e. for the town of Athlone. The sewer works will include new
trunk sewers, new storm sewers and foul sewers for future development
areas, upgrading hydraulically and structurally deficient sewers,
rehabilitation of existing sewers, elimination of storm overflows,
provision of storm storage, upgrading/new sewage pumping stations and
flood alleviation works.
The object of these site investigation contracts is to obtain information
regarding existing ground conditions, underground services and condition
of the existing sewers to enable the design and construction of the
scheme.
The site investigations contracts will be implemented under two separate
contracts as follows:
1A - Soil Investigation Contract
1G - CCTV Surveys Contract
Estimated cost of works excluding VAT:
Range: between 850 000 and 1 200 000 Currency: EUR.

INFORMATION ABOUT LOTS
LOT No: 1A
TITLE: Soil Investigations
1) SHORT DESCRIPTION: The object of the soils investigation work is to
obtain information regarding existing ground conditions, underground
services and obstructions along the route of proposed sewer works and at
the sites for the wastewater treatment works, storm tank and pumping
stations.
2) COMMON PROCUREMENT VOCABULARY (CPV): 71332000, 45120000.
3) QUANTITY OR SCOPE: The scope of the works envisaged under this soil
investigation contract is as follows:
(a) Shell and auger or cable percussion boreholes, sampling and in situ
testing;
(b) Vertical open hole rotary drilling;
(c) Trial pits, slit trenching, sampling and in situ testing;
(d) Rock coring, proving rock to a specified depth and in situ testing;
(e) Water level and piezometric head measurement at selected boreholes;
(f) Detailed borehole, coring, trial pit and inspection pit logs as
described in BS5930 and the specification;
(g) Laboratory testing of soil samples for engineering properties,
behaviour and suitability;
(h) Laboratory testing of rock samples for engineering properties,
behaviour and suitability;
(i) Preparation of detailed factual report as BS5930 and the
specification;
(j) Preparation of AGS digital data;
(k) Geophysical Surveys;
(l) Liaison with Local Authority, landowners and other public and private
bodies as necessary.
Estimated cost excluding VAT:
Range: between 700 000 and 1 000 000 EUR.

LOT No: 1G
TITLE: CCTV Surveys of Existing Sewers
1) SHORT DESCRIPTION: A CCTV survey of the existing sewers in Athlone
Town is required under this contract. A complete CCTV survey was completed
in 2002 and this contract will include sewers that were not fully surveyed
under this contract and sewers that were constructed subsequently. This
contract will also include sewer cleaning and a limited manhole survey.
2) COMMON PROCUREMENT VOCABULARY (CPV): 90491000, 90470000.
3) QUANTITY OR SCOPE: The scope of works will include:
(i) Survey existing sewers and surface water culverts;
(ii) Locate and raise buried manholes;
(iii) Survey existing manholes;
(iv) Clean existing sewers.
The quantities to be survey are unknown at this stage.
Estimated cost excluding VAT:
Range: between 150 000 and 200 000 EUR.
