II.7) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Portsmouth City Council is inviting
expressions of interest from committed and innovative organisations
experienced in venue management in a 15 year contract for the management
and development of Portsmouth Guildhall. This will be a key project in the
regeneration of the city centre, with the building providing a cultural,
community and civic focal point. The Guildhall will be used as a venue for
a wide range of musical, artistic, educational, business and community
activities, for the benefit of Portsmouth residents and visitors to the
city.
The contractor will be responsible for facilities management and building
maintenance, programming events (including concerts, weddings and
conferences), technical operations, the box office, merchandise and "front
of house". The provision and management of licensed bar and catering
facilities is also integral to the project.
The contract will underpin a partnership between the selected operator and
Portsmouth City Council to maximise the use and profitability of the
Guildhall. Various levels of initial capital investment from the Council
are being considered, and potential contractors must have access to
capital funding. The project should aim to become self-financing and
deliver an income stream to both parties.
The Council is looking for a management team with the flair and experience
to deliver its vision for the future for Portsmouth Guildhall. Informal
market consultation meetings incorporating a site visit are planned for
September/October 2009. Attendance is not mandatory, but to receive an
invitation organisations should register their interest by 8.9.2009.
