SECTION II: OBJECT OF THE CONTRACT
II.1) DESCRIPTION
II.1.1) Title attributed to the contract by the contracting authority:
UK-London: waste management, cleansing, recycling and disposal of waste
from new spitalfields market and building cleaning.
II.1.2) Type of contract and location of works, place of delivery or of
performance: Services.

Main place of performance: At the City of London Corporation's New
Spitalfields Market in the administrative area of the London Borough of
Waltham Forest.

II.1.3) The notice involves: A public contract.
II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): New
Spitalfields Market is the UK's premier Horticultural Wholesale Market
owned and administered by the City of London Corporation, it has some 140
tenants and is situated in Leyton, East London. With a site footprint of
some 32 acres, attracting 1 million vehicles per year and having a
turnover of some 70 ,000 tonnes per annum of fruit, vegetables and flowers
the optimisation of space has been managed to the maximum. The contract is
for the waste management, cleaning, recycling and disposal, relating to
some 12 - 13 000 tonnes of mixed associated market waste per year i.e.
organic, cardboard, timber, plastic, polystyrene and landfill etc, with an
emphasis on continual improvement in landfill reduction as well as cost
reduction limitations. The market operates for trading 6 days a week
however due to the nature of the business, contractor's staff are employed
24/6 in order to ensure that cleaning and waste management are proactively
managed. Within the contract, key areas will cover the cleaning of common
areas within the main 309 000 sq ft wholesale pavilion, roadways and
external distribution areas connected to the 40 000 sq ft Catering Supply
Buildings area, some 1 million sq ft of parking areas and roadways, toilet
blocks of approximately 45 cubicles, 866 sq metres of office and reception
area cleaning as well as grounds maintenance to 0.4 hectares, all of which
are required to meet the exacting standards of Food Hygiene Regulations
and Health and Safety.

II.2) QUANTITY OR SCOPE OF THE CONTRACT
II.2.1) Total quantity or scope: The City of London Corporation is
seeking to award a contract with an initial period of 7 years, extendable
for a further period of 3 years, to be awarded on an annual basis. Any
such extension shall be exerciseable at the sole discretion of the City of
London Corporation.
Estimated value excluding VAT: 20 000 000 GBP.
II.2.2) Options: Yes.
Description of these options: The City of London Corporation shall have an
option to extend the contract which may be awarded pursuant to this notice
for a period up to 3 years (annually awarded) at the sole discretion of
the City of London Corporation.

months: 120 (from the award of the contract).

Under this contract the contractor and its supply chain will be required

supply chain initiatives. Accordingly the contract performance conditions
