Name of Project : Provincial Roads Project (Uva and Eastern Provinces)

The Democratic, Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has applied for a Credit from the International Development Agency (IDA) in the amount of US $105 million equivalent towards the cost of the Provincial Road Improvement Project and it intends to apply the proceeds of this credit to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project. The project will include the following components:

1. Civil Works

Contract rehabilitation and upgrading of paved provincial roads is envisaged covering 200kms in Uva Province and 100kms in the Ampara District of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Civil works packages are expected in the range from US$1million to US$ 10 million.


2. Consultant Services

Consultant services are envisaged for construction supervision of civil works, studies relating to road maintenance, project monitoring and the assessment of the domestic construction industry

Individual Consultants for the monitoring of of Environmental and Social mitigation measure, procurement technical assistance and other related activities will also be required.

3. Goods

Procurement of goods is envisaged in respect of vehicles and office and laboratory equipment including, computers, printers, photocopy machines office furniture and other related equipment.


Procurement of contracts financed by the credit will be conducted through the procedures specified in the World Bank's Guidelines for Procurement under IBRD Loan IDA Credits, published by the World Bank in May 2004 and revised in October 2006 and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, published by the World Bank in May 2004 and revised in October 2006.

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank's international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for large-value consultants' contracts will be announced, as they become available, in Development Business and DG Market.

NCB contracts will be advertised in national newspapers with wide coverage.
