of different policies and measures in EU Member States providing for
government intervention in inward foreign investments in the defence
sector could act as a potential barrier to the much needed consolidation
of this industrial sector.
In view of the above, the Commission has undertaken to launch a study
'defining how control of assets might be undertaken in the future to
ensure competitive supply at the European level', and which takes into
consideration 'the range of options available to Europe to sustain its
essential defence and security interests'.
