Government of Georgia is considering applying to the Bank (EBRD) together
with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau
(KfW) for the financing of the construction of a new 315 km high voltage
transmission line from Gardabani to Zestaponi and a "back-to-back"
substation at the Turkish border. The project will be implemented by the
Georgian State Electrosystem, 100% owned by the State of Georgia.
The proposed project has a total estimated cost of EUR 260 million, to be
financed by the Bank, EIB, KfW and the Georgian Government, and will
require the procurement of the following goods, works and services for:
(a) supply and installation of back to back station at the Turkish border;
(b) supply and installation, and works services for the modernization of
the existing substations Gardabani and Zestaponi;
(c) construction of the 315 km high voltage line
(d) related consultancy services;
Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of the loan from the Bank will
be subject to the Bank's Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open
to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank's loan will not be
used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, or for any
import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of
the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter
of the United Nations or under a law or official regulation of the
Purchaser's country.
Tendering for any goods, works and services is expected to start in August
2008 and will run through to August 2009.
