The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has received financing in the amount of USD 332.8 million equivalent from the International Development Associations (IDA), the Fast Track Initiative Catalytic Fund (FTI CF) and other development partners (the Netherlands, Italian Development Cooperation, SIDA, and Finland) through a Multi-Donor Trust Fund toward the cost of the GEQIP Project and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, textbooks and related services and consulting services to be procured under this project.

The project includes the following components:- (i) a Teacher Development Program; (ii) Curriculum, Textbooks and Assessment; (iii) a Management and Administration Program, including an Education Management Information System sub-component; (iv) the School Improvement Program (SIP), including a School Grant sub-component; and (v) Program Coordination, including monitoring and evaluation activities.

The project will finance the consultancy services in the following areas:

a) Education Management, Planning, Curriculum and Assessment
b) Monitoring and Evaluation
c) Teaching Material Development
d) Education Management and Information Systems; and
e) Project Implementation, Financial Management, Procurement, and Audit

The project will finance the procurement of goods in the following areas;

a) Development, Printing and Distribution of Textbooks and Teachers Guides
b) Vehicles and motorcyles and
c) Office, Laboratory, IT equipment and installations

Procurement of contracts will be conducted through the procedures as specified in the World Bank's Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, dated May 2004, and revised October 2006, and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, dated May 2004, and revised October 2006.

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be bid under the World Bank's international competitive bidding (ICB) procedures and for contracts for consultancy services will be announced, as they become available, in UN Development Business, dgMarket and in local newspapers.

Interested eligible bidders who wish to be included on the mailing list to receive invitations to prequalify/bid under ICB procedures, and interested consultants who wish to receive a copy of advertisement requesting expressions of interest for consultancy contracts, or those requiring additional information, should contact the address below.
