Invitation for Bids

ZAMBIA

Bidding for this contract will be governed by the procurement rules
specified in the African Development Bank Rules of Procedure for
Procurement of Goods and Works[1]. It is open to all bidders from
eligible source countries as defined in the guidelines.

The Education III Project tends to improve the quality of the primary
school education system in the country.

The Zambia National Tender Board. now invites sealed bids from
eligible bidders for the following lots:

- Contract 1 - Construction of five primary schools in the Central
Province:

- Construction of 4 Nos. 1 x 3 classroom blocks, comprising 3 Nos.
classrooms and 3 Nos. storerooms; 6 Nos. 1 x 2 classroom blocks,
comprising 2 Nos. classrooms and 2 Nos. storerooms (Primary
school)
- teachers’ houses (Construction work for multi-dwelling buildings
and individual houses) - 17
- 29 Nos. double-pit latrines; 17 Nos. single-pit latrines with
washroom (Primary school)

- Contract 2 - Construction of six primary schools in the Southern
Province::

- Construction of 5 Nos. 1 x 3 classroom blocks, comprising 3 Nos.
classrooms and 3 Nos. storerooms; 6 Nos. 1 x 2 classroom blocks,
comprising 2 Nos. classrooms and 2 Nos. storerooms; (Primary
school)
- teachers’ houses (Construction work for multi-dwelling buildings
and individual houses) - 17
- 33 Nos. double-pit latrines; 17 Nos. single-pit latrines with
washroom (Construction work)

- Contract 3 - Construction of three primary schools in the
North-Western Province::

- Construction of 3 Nos. 1 x 3 classroom blocks, comprising 3 Nos.
classrooms and 3 Nos. storerooms; 2 Nos. 1 x 2 classroom blocks,
comprising 2 Nos. classrooms and 2 Nos. storerooms; (Primary
school)
- teachers’ houses (Construction work for houses) - 8
- 16 Nos. double-pit latrines; 8 Nos. single-pit latrines with
washroom (Plumbing and sanitary works)

- Contract 4 - Construction of three primary schools in the
Western Province::

- Construction of 3 No. 1 x 3 classroom blocks, comprising 3 Nos.
classrooms and 3 Nos. storerooms; 3 Nos. 1 x 2 classroom blocks,
comprising 2 Nos. classrooms and 2 Nos. storerooms; (Primary
school)
- teachers’ houses (Construction work for houses) - 10
- 18 Nos. double-pit latrines; 10 Nos. single-pit latrines with
washroom (Plumbing and sanitary works)

- Contract 5 - Borehole drilling to 19 primary schools::

- 19 Nos. borehole siting; drilling and casing; installation of
handpumps and provision of drainage around borehole; pump testing
and commissioning (Drainage equipment)

Bids must be accompanied by a security of K 87,400,000 for Contract 1,
K 95,000,000 for Contract 2, K 45,600,000 for Contract 3, K 49,400,000
for Contract 4 and K 17,480,000 for Contract 5, or their equivalent in
a freely convertible currency.

Bidding is allowed for whole lots only.

Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information from and
inspect the bidding documents at the Zambia National Tender Board. at
the address below. A complete set of bidding documents in English may
be purchased by interested bidders on the submission of a written
application to the address below and upon payment of a nonrefundable
fee of ZMK 400000. The method of payment will be: cash or bank
certified check, or its equivalent in a freely convertible currency,
in favor of the Zambia National Tender Board. The document will be
sent by by hand or by mail.

Bids must be delivered to the address below by 14:00 on 14 December
2001. All bids must be accompanied by a bid security equivalent to ZMK
. The amount is specified above. Late bids will be rejected. Bids will
be opened in the presence of bidders' representatives who choose to
attend at the address below on 14 December 2001 at 14:15.
