6. Contract description: The contract is to supply equipment for:
stationary portal monitor unit teams, which consists of:
— stationary portal monitor systems with automatic detection of nuclear
and radioactive materials in vehicles, consignments and on pedestrians,
— hand-held equipment with forensic capabilities and
— personal radiation detectors (pagers).
14 border crossings will be equipped,
mobile portal monitor unit teams which consists of:
— mobile portal monitor systems with automatic detection of nuclear and
other radioactive materials in vehicles and on pedestrians, installed on
the chassis of a suitable vehicle.
Mobile portal monitor unit teams are expected to be formed and, using
suitable vehicles, move from one border crossing to another in order to
detect nuclear and radioactive materials. The equipment would be used by
custom officers to detect illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive
materials applying default procedures.
7. Indicative number of titles and lots: lot 1: land stationary portal
monitor system (detection of nuclear and radioactive materials in trucks
and trains),
lot 2: baggage stationary portal monitor system,
lot 3: hand-held equipment,
lot 4: personal radiation detectors — pagers,
lot 5: mobile portal monitor system,
lot 6: transportation vehicle.
8. Intended timing of publication of the procurement notice: March/April
2008.
9. Additional information: Not applicable.
10. Legal basis: Council Regulation (EC) No 3906/89 of 18.12.1989, as
last amended by Council Regulation (EC) No 2257/2004 of 20.12.2004.
Remarks:
There must be a minimum period of 30 calendar days between the publication
of this contract forecast and the publication of the corresponding
procurement notice.
