Seeks expert research services designed to inform IAN of the transforming technology(ies) that may most affect sectors of the economy -- for better or worse -- and the governments actions that may most facilitate or obstruct the technological advances. The International Trade Administration's (ITA) mission is to create prosperity by strengthening the competitiveness of U.S. industry, promoting trade and investment, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements. ITA's Office of Industry Analysis (IAN) uses various analytical techniques and in-depth industry knowledge to identify and assess key factors, trends and policies that impact U.S. firms. These assessments are used to help both policy makers and industry leaders better understand global market forces and how to respond to these forces.
The objective is to develop a set of well-defined yet distinct scenarios describing various potential futures of U.S. manufacturing identifying significant technological advances and key government policies, laws or regulations. These scenarios will provide IAN a framework to identify key milestones and policy solutions that may predicate certain future outcomes as well as unintended consequences. A potential future may include:
Nanotechnology becomes as common place in consumer goods as computers are today.
Nanotechnology becomes central to technological improvements in medical devices.
Nanotechnological processes become crucial for the development of new chemicals, including pharmaceuticals.
The government actions (e.g. policies, laws, regulations) that are most like to obstruct (facilitate) the adoption the transforming nanotechnology
The sectors of the economy that would benefit most (or be hurt by) the transforming nanotechnology and the government action.
Seeks expert services that will efficiently and effectively provide future scenarios in support of MAS mission of providing expert research and analysis in order to shape and implement trade policy, create conditions that encourage innovation, lower the cost of doing business, and promote U.S. economic growth.
