Education III Project (Support to BESSIP)

Ref: MOE/ADB/W/001/06.

Construction of Seven Primary Schools (7 No.) in Eastern Province of Zambia

1. This Specific Procurement Notice follows the General Procurement Notice for this project, which appeared in Development Business Issue No 543 dated 30th September 2000.

2. The Government of the Republic of Zambia has received a loan from the African Development Fund in the amount of UA9.45 million towards the cost of the Education III Project (Support to BESSIP), and intends to apply part of the proceeds of the loan to cover eligible payments under the contract for the Construction of Seven Primary Schools in Eastern Province of Zambia. Bidding is open to all bidders from eligible member countries as defined in the ADB's Rules of Procedure for the Procurement of Goods and Works.

3. The Zambia National Tender Board on behalf of the Ministry of Education, now invites sealed bids from prospective bidders for any or all of the following lots :

Lot 1 – Construction of 8 classrooms, 5 teachers’ houses, 5 outdoor kitchens, 10 double pit latrines, and 5 single pit latrine with washrooms at Nyimba and Petauke Districts
Lot 2 – Construction of 9 classrooms, 7 teachers’ houses, 7 outdoor kitchens, 11
double pit latrines, and 7 single pit latrine with washrooms at Chipata and
Mambwe Districts
Lot 3 – Construction of 15 classrooms, 10 teachers’ houses, 10 outdoor kitchens, 18
double pit latrines, and 10 single pit latrines with washrooms at Lundazi and
Chama Districts

4. Complete sets of bidding documents (and additional copies) may be purchased from the Zambia National Tender Board, Red Cross Building, Los Angels Boulevard, Long Acres, Telephone No. 260-1-221883/228633/4, Telefax No. 260-1-220577, P.O. Box 31009, Lusaka, Zambia, upon payment of a non-refundable fee of K1,000,000.00 in local currency or its equivalent in a freely convertible currency, payable to Zambia National Tender Board in cash or bank certified cheque for each set. Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information and inspect the bidding documents at the same address.



5. The instructions to bidders and general conditions of contract contained in the bidding documents comply with the Bank's Standard Bidding Documents for the Procurement of Works.

6. Bids shall be valid for a bid period of (90 days) after Bid Opening and must be accompanied by the security deposit in the sum of K45,000,000.00 for One School in Nyimba and One School in Petauke, K55,000,000.00 for One School in Chipata and One School in Mambwe, and K60,000,000.00 for Two Schools in Lundazi and One School in Chama in local currency or its equivalent in a freely convertible currency and be delivered to the Zambia National Tender Board, Red Cross Building, Los Angels Boulevard, Long Acres, P.O. Box 31009, Lusaka, Zambia on or before 14.00 hours local time on Friday May 5th, 2006, at which time they will be opened in the presence of the bidders’ representatives who choose to attend.
