BF:Agricultural Productivity & Food Sec. operates in Burkina Faso.
The objective of the Agricultural Productivity and Food Security Project for Burkina Faso is to improve the capacity of poor producers to increase food production and to ensure improved availability of food products in rural markets. There are three components to the project. The first component of the project is improving food production. This component will finance: a) matching grants for the adoption of high performing agricultural technological packages to qualified households, and communities. Those beneficiaries (households) with limited purchasing power who cannot provide their contribution in cash will be given the opportunity to participate in 'voucher for work' programs; and b) development of community assets in support of food production and marketing as planned and organized by village development councils (with payment of labor through a 'voucher for work' program). The second component of the project is improving the availability of food products. This component aims at strengthening the capacities of stakeholders to manage the variability of food supplies at local and national levels. This component will have two sub-components: (i) matching grants to producer groups for reducing post-harvest losses; and (ii) supporting the marketing of food products. The third component of the project is institutional development and capacity building. The component aims at reinforcing the capacities of institutions and service providers directly involved in project implementation. Specifically, project activities will focus on the following areas: (i) building capacities of service providers; (ii) strengthening agricultural input supply delivery systems; (iii) strengthening the capacity of producer organizations and; (iv) management and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of project activities.
