Cambodia Road Improvement Project. Ministry of Public Works and Transport operates in Cambodia.
The overall objectives of the Project are to promote economic activities and trade among Cambodia, Thailand, and Viet Nam, and improve the prospects for poverty reduction along the Southern Economic Corridor. The Project will, together with other ongoing and planned investments funded by ADB other development partners,: (i) promote national and subregional economic growth by reducing the cost and increasing the reliability of transport, thus promoting national and subregional trade and the fast-growing tourism industry; (ii) reduce poverty by providing all-year, all-weather access to employment opportunities, markets, and growth centers; (iii) improve social conditions by providing all-year, all-weather access to education and health; (iv) strengthen the domestic road-contracting industry and promote private sector participation in the roads sector by providing opportunities in road construction and maintenance; (v) work with an experienced nongovernmental organization under the national HIV/AIDS framework to support efforts to control the disease in the project area and create awareness; (vi) initiate a process of reform of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), aimed particularly at the road sector, and focusing on road asset management and transparency guiding themes; and (vii) support the establishment of effective systems for road maintenance management and road maintenance financing
