Almaty-Bishkek Regional Road Rehabilitation Project. Ministry of Transport and Communications operates in Kazakhstan.
The Project will rehabilitate about 204 km of the road from the Almaty city boundary to the Georgievka border in Kazakhstan and about 41 km in the Kyrgyz Republic including 17 km section from the Georgievka border to the Bishkek city boundary and the 24 km interconnecting the Bishkek-Georgievka border road with the Bishkek-Osh road. Much of the road between Almaty and Bishkek was completed 20 to 25 years ago and was designed according to former Soviet Union standards. The pavement shows distress in the form of surface cracks on the entire length and rutting at number of places. Urgent rehabilitation is required to prevent the road from deteriorating further. The rehabilitation will consist of reconstructing failed embankments, providing crushed aggregate base course, surfacing with asphalt concrete, and improving shoulders and drainage facilities. The rehabilitation does not include any widening or upgrading works
