AGRICULTURE: NORTH-EAST IRRIGATED AGRICULTURE PROJECT operates in Sri Lanka.
The project is a community-driven, rural village level, small scale, social and economic reintegration project targeting the people most affected by the long ongoing ethnic conflict in the NorthEast provinc of Sri Lanka. Its objective is to help the conflict affected communities to reestablish at least subsistence level of production and basic community services, through assistance with jump-starting agrcultural and small scale reconstruction activities and build their capacity for social and economic re-integration.
Project will benefit about 30,000 conflict affected families living in 400 viallges in teh North-East region of Sri Lanka.
The project includes provisions for formation and revitalization of Community Based Organizations, primarily farmers organizations and rural development societies, rehabilitation of about 400 small irrigation reservoirs (tanks), 1,200 km of rural roads, constrution of about 300 driniking water wells and miscellaneous small scale construction activities and various livelihood support activities requested by the target beneficiaries
