The global objective of the Dairy Cattle Development Project is to contribute to the improvement of food security and poverty reduction. The specific objective is to satisfy domestic demand for milk and beef, as well as increase the producers’ incomes.
In order to achieve these objectives, the project aims at the following outputs: (i) organize, train, equip and supervise grassroots operators to enable them to participate right from the start in project implementation and assume its ownership; (ii) improve the local cattle breed with performing breeds so as to improve its productivity and disseminate the crossbreeds; (iii) provide appropriate veterinary services through an epidemiological surveillance network, a quality control service, the organization of prophylaxis campaigns and supply of veterinary inputs; (iv) ensure rational management of grazing lands and improve the feeding of cattle; (v) construct and operate facilities for the collection, storage and marketing of livestock products; (vi) strengthen the capacities of the national services involved in project implementation; and (vii) set up a project management unit and make it operational
