REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR
CONSULTING SERVICES
This request for Expression of Interest (EOI) follows the general procurement notice for this project that appeared in UN Development Business, issue No. 605 of April 30, 2003.
The Government of Ghana has received a grant from the International Development Association (IDA), and intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this credit to payments under the Contract for the Siting and Rehabilitation of Boreholes for the Subsequent Year Investment Programme (SYIP) under the Urban Water Project.
Several urban water supply systems are expected to benefit from the SYIP and for the groundwater-based systems, this improvement would take the form of siting and drilling of new boreholes and rehabilitation of existing defective ones to provide additional production capacity. This will involve some fifteen (15) systems spread all over the Country which are based on groundwater, for which there would be the need for Fifty Four (54) new boreholes to be drilled and mechanized. In the same systems it is estimated that about Seventy Eight (78) boreholes would require rehabilitation to restore their yield or production capacity.
The main goals of this consultancy are to analyze, inspect, examine and develop proposals for rehabilitation of existing boreholes in the project area, and also to select sites for construction of new boreholes to ensure the best chance of obtaining successful boreholes of adequate yield for mechanization, Other goals of the assignment are to procure the works for borehole drilling and rehabilitation, and for supervision of the works.
The scope of services to be undertaken under this assignment includes but is not limited to the following:
a) Borehole site selection.
b) Internal inspection and examination of existing boreholes.
c) Recommendation of borehole sites. The Regional distribution of boreholes to be drilled and rehabilitated is shown in Table 1 below.
d) Assistance with procurement of the works for borehole drilling and construction.
e) Supervision of works for borehole drilling and construction.
f) Supervision of borehole rehabilitation.
g) Preparation and submission of relevant reports.

The assignment is to be undertaken and completed within thirty six (36) weeks.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) represented by its Project Management Unit (PMU) now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating their qualifications and capability to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.). Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.

A firm will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the current edition of the World Bank’s “Guidelines - Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers, May 2004 (revised October 1, 2006)” which can be found at the following website: www.worldbank.org/procure.

Interested firms may obtain further information at the address below from 0900 to1600 hours daily from September 29, 2008.
