The Library of Congress (LOC) has a requirement for book binding service. LOC has monographs and serials which require the support of a hard cover to allow them to withstand the rigors of library use. Some volumes may require preservation photocopying/scanning prior to binding. Scanning capabilities should include delivery options of electronic files and/or printing and binding in hard copy. Some materials may require specialized boxing to fit the specific piece. Many of these materials are in foreign languages and could be in any script, including Arabic and Asian language scripts. Volumes may vary in length from a few pages to hundreds of pages. Volumes may range in size from a few inches in both dimensions to large folios. Some materials may require general conservation treatment either in addition to standard binding, or instead of standard binding. In order to perform the requirements that will be specified in the solicitation, offerors shall have experience in the full range of library materials and styles of book binding and in digital reformatting. This experience includes collation, preparation, leaf attachment, stamping, case-making, and casing performed in accordance with nationally recognized standards and guidelines. In the case of reformatting this experience includes scanning, metadata creation, print-on-demand options and delivery of files and/or hard copy reproduction.
