The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the Department of Defense (DoD) Medical School and Health Sciences University, hereby announces its intent to acquire on a sole source basis with Biomedic Data Systems, Inc. in Seaford, Delaware for four implantable identification systems, DAS-6001 Console Systems for the Armed Forces Radiobiological Research Institute (AFRRI).

The systems will be used to identify and record the body temperature of rodents, non-human primates and other animals within the vivarium. The Biomedic Data Systems console system allows animal identification and body temperature assessment via a subcutaneously-injected transponder chip. The detection system allows for identification and temperature measurements to be made within close proximity to the animal and also through the plastic micro-isolater cages. This allows for data collection with minimal disturbance to the animal.

The Biomedic Data System's Console System is unique in that it allows for individual identification of each animal and the body temperature via an easily injected transponder chip. The system also allows for collection of body weight and other linked measurements and set parameters. In addition, this system is currently an existing system being used by other investigators within AFRRI, both Non-Human Primate and Rodent current and past protocols.

This award is IAW FAR Part 13.106-1(b)(1) and authorizes USUHS to award contracts when only one source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
