of different policies and measures in EU Member States providing for
government intervention in inward foreign investments in the defence
sector could act as a potential barrier to the much needed consolidation
of this industrial sector. The purpose of the study is to assess how
existing national policies and measures on inward foreign investment
should be shaped in the future in order to facilitate the necessary
consolidation of the sector and the building up of a European Defence
Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB), while ensuring the protection
of Europe's essential defence and security interests.
