RFP-MNR- Creation / Enhancement of Walleye Spawning Habitat

Creation / enhancement of walleye spawning habitat.

The ministry has four (4) optional scenarios for the scope of the creation/enhancement of the walleye spawning habitat. Due to budget restrictions the ministry will evaluate and contract for the best value for money, within budget.
Respondents may offer a proposal to any or all options 1 to 4 for the number of boulders, however all other tasks (1, 2a and 2b) must be included with each option

This project is located within the C-90 Lower Moon River Conservation Reserve as well as Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO, 2004) and the Lower Moon River Heritage Area (District of Muskoka designation).

Voluntary site meeting: July 21, 2008 11:00 am Moon River Cottages at the end of Arnold’s Bay Road.

The project location is Lot 34, Concession VIII, (Freeman Ward) Township of Georgian Bay, Moon River.

There are two routes to access the Moon River:

From Hwy 612, proceed approximately 40 km. west on Woods Bay / Healey Lake road to Moon River (end of road). The Wood Bay / Healey Lake Road is a municipal road (Township of the Archipelago). The road is ‘tar and chips’ and in excellent condition.

From Highway 69, proceed approximately 15 kilometers west on the 12-Mile Bay Road to American Trail / Arnold’s Bay Road. 12-Mile Bay road is paved. Thence approximately 6.5 km on Arnold’s Bay Road to Moon River at end of road. The Arnold’s Bay Road is a public road over Crown land that is privately maintained. (This is probably not a feasible route for the transport of heavy equipment or large volumes of rock. The road is currently unsuitable for the transport of the foregoing and considerable improvement would be required to make it so. Furthermore, there is not a suitable facility for barge loading at this location.
