II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): The object of
this project is to test and obtain knowledge of efficient methods and
equipment for mechanical removal of snow and ice. It is a direct
connection between the requirement for amount of salt which must be added
in order to achieve bare roads and the amount of snow, ice and water which
are on the roads. In order to reduce the amount of salt it is therefore of
great importance to remove as much as possible of snow, ice and water
before salt is added on the road surfaces. It is a request that this
project will develop methods and equipment which can provide a
considerable reduction of or end the use of salt in particularly
vulnerable areas. Such methods can result in a considerable larger
resource effort from the contractors.
