SECTION II: OBJECT OF THE CONTRACT
II.1) DESCRIPTION

II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Fáilte Ireland,
the National Tourism Development Authority, established under the National
Tourism Development Authority Act, 2003, brings together and builds on the
functions previously discharged by Bord Fáilte and CERT. The organisation
provides strategic and practical support to develop and sustain Ireland as
a high-quality and competitive tourist destination. Fáilte Ireland works
in strategic partnership with tourism interests to support the industry in
its efforts to be more competitive and more profitable and to help
individual enterprises to enhance their performance.
The objective of the Survey of Overseas Travellers is the collection and
analysis of the trip and traveller characteristics of overseas visitors to
Ireland.
— Survey conducted continuously throughout the year,
— Overseas tourists (visitors spending at least one night in Ireland)
interviewed departing the country at the major air and sea ports
throughout the Republic (Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Knock, Dun Laoghaire and
Rosslare),
— Face to face interviews of up to 15 minutes duration (average) with 10
000 overseas visitors per year based on the following criteria:
— Overseas residents aged 16 years and over spending at least one night
but not more than a year in Ireland,
— Fáilte Ireland will require questionnaire development, printing and
distribution, management of fieldwork, data editing and entry, tabular
reports and an annual database and appropriate software for internal
interrogation and analysis.
The Survey of Overseas Travellers has been conducted by Fáilte Ireland
(previously Bord Fáilte) for the past forty years and comparability of
results with previous years is a key aspect of the Survey.

II.2) QUANTITY OR SCOPE OF THE CONTRACT
II.2.1) Total quantity or scope: This contract is for a three year period
with fieldwork commencing 1st of January 2009 (subject to annual review).
Fáilte Ireland reserves the right to extend this contract for a period of
a further two years.
II.2.2) Options: No.
II.3) DURATION OF THE CONTRACT OR TIME-LIMIT FOR COMPLETION: Duration in
months: 36 (from the award of the contract).
