II.1) DESCRIPTION

drilling of 3 geothermal wells at Assal, Djibouti.

Main site or location of works: The Assal Geothermal Project is located
approximately 120 km to the west of Djibouti City, at an elevation of 60
m.a.s.l.
II.1.3) The notice involves: A public contract.
II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): It is the
intention of Reykjavík Energy Invest (REI) to build a geothermal power
plant in the Assal Rift in Djibouti. The plan is to build a 150MW power
plant with an initial stage of 50 MW. However, if the area can support and
sustain a greater capacity the aim is to build extensions at such time as
the market in Djibouti will be ready for additional power. It is estimated
that the first stage of the power plant will be in operation in 2012.
