The Corps of Engineers has a need for a contract for rehabilitation of the dam crest gates at Berlin Dam in northeastern Ohio on the Mahoning River. A total of four (4) tainter type gates will be renovated. The gates are welded steel, 18 feet high and 30 feet long, consisting of plate and structural shapes. Work on the gates includes removing the gates from their normal position on the crest of the dam, reinforcing sections of the gate, removing lead paint and repainting, replacing rubber seals, lifting chains and sprockets; weld testing and coupon tests on embedded trunnion pins; supplying new stop logs; minor modifications to, and painting of, the moveable hoist; painting of ring jets; supplying and erecting a pre-engineered metal building on a concrete foundation including electric service. Welded joints are to be tested by applicable non-destructive testing (ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and visual). The contractor will be responsible to develop and submit detailed shop drawings for review and approval. The period of performance will be between 365 and 700 calendar days. Magnitude of the project is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. This procurement will be advertised on an unrestricted basis. The Invitation for Bid (IFB) will be issued on or about July 11, 2008 online only through the Federal Business Opportunities website; therefore, requests for hardcopies of the specifications and drawings will not be honored. Requests must e made by registering for this solicitation at http://www.fedbizopps.gov. Once registered, vendors, plan rooms and printing companies will be able to download the solicitation and drawings on or after the above issuance ate.
