Modification to Raised Guardrails on Ramped Stairwell at NGC

The NGC was built in 1985-88 and opened to the public in 1988. It is an environmentally controlled building displaying extensive national collections.

The NGC will remain open to the public and operational during the construction work commissioned in this ITT. NGC will be responsible to provide the required interior protection for visitors and the collections located in the areas adjacent to the work areas.

The anticipated need for Building Code Upgrades would be from 23 July 2008 to 29 October. Dates as shown include fifteen days for shop drawing and construction schedule preparation at the beginning of the project and 40 days for the construction and completion of the work.

BIDDERS’ CONFERENCE (SITE VISIT) – MANDATORY (M)

Bidders’ representative must (M) attend a Bidders Conference/ Site Visit to be held at the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) building, located at 380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario: Wednesday June 25, 2008 at 9:30 AM. Bidders shall bring their complete copy of the ITT document to the Conference, including all Technical Specifications and Drawings documents.

This Invitation to Tender (ITT) seeks to find a qualified construction firm to perform work at the National Gallery of Canada to address code compliancy issues (Health & Safety concerns) for various public areas at the NGC (i.e. Ramped Stairwell in Concourse - add and raise guardrails, plus raise the balustrade. Rotunda Stairwell and PDP mezzanine - reposition existing balustrade and modify granite sloped sill detail).

This type of work would require the contractor to be expertly skilled in architectural precast concrete, stone panels, joint sealants and tempered glass and railings.
