THIS IS ONLY AN ADVANCE NOTICE OF AN INTENT TO AWARD ON A NON-COMPETITIVE BASIS TO THOMAS HAMILTON GEOLOGICAL CONSULTING. THE REQUEST FOR QUOTE FOR THE REQUIRED SERVICES WILL BE SENT AFTER 4 June 2008. NO RESPONSE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. This will be a Small Business Set-Aside. NAICS Code: 541690 SERVICES NEEDED: 1. Update the existing published USGS surficial geologic quadrangle maps of the Chandalar (MF-878A), Chandler Lake (MF-1121), Philip Smith Mountains (MF-879A), and Wiseman (MF-1122). This will include modifications of line-work, unit designators and unit descriptions of the originally published maps. These modifications will incorporate new knowledge that was gained in more recent surficial geologic mapping efforts in quadrangles to the west. 2. Provide expert review and will assure that geologic line-work, labels and symbols accurately capture the surficial geology as represented on current USGS publications and unpublished work (also incorporating updates from #1 above) (Chandalar(MF-878A), Chandler Lake (MF-1121), Philip Smith Mountains (MF-879A) and Wiseman (MF-1122) quadrangles, Shungnak (unpublished)). The digitizing will be captured under a separate agreement with the USGS-Alaska Science Center. 3. Provide a composite map of the SURFICIAL GEOLOGIC MAP OF THE GATES OF THE ARCTIC NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE, ALASKA, including a surrounding 10 km buffer at a scale of not less than 1:250,000. Included quadrangles: Ambler River (USGS MF-1678, 1984), Chandalar (USGS MF-878-A, 1978) Chandler Lake (USGS MF-1121, 1979), Hughs (USGS MF-2408, 2002), Killik River (USGS-MF1234, 1982), Phillip Smith Mountains (USGS MF-879A, 1978), Survey Pass (USGS MF-1320, 1981), and Wiseman (USGS MF-1122, 1979), Bettles (USGS MF-2409, 2002), Howard Pass (USGS MF-1677, 1984) and Shungnk (unpublished). 4. Provide an integrated "Description of Map Units, List of Symbols, and Correlation Chart" that include all units present within the composite map - SURFICIAL GEOLOGIC MAP OF THE GATES OF THE ARCTIC NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE, ALASKA. 5. Provide a descriptive text (Pamphlet) to accompany map. Text will include 1) description of geology and physical setting of the map area, 2) history of previous investigations, 3) synopsis of geologic history, and 4) discussion of features of unusual interest or importance (such as geologic hazards). The pamphlet will also 5) provide an introduction to the published literature of the Gates of the Arctic region.
