1. This invitation for prequalification follows the General Procurement Notice for this project that appeared in Development Business No. 605 of April 2005 on-line and in dg Market.
2. The Government of the Republic of Ghana has received a credit from the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) towards the cost of the Urban Water Project and it intends to apply part of the proceeds of this credit to payments under the contract for Dams Rehabilitation Works.
3. The Ghana Water Company Ltd., acting through its Project Management Unit, intends to pre-qualify contractors for the Works, which involve rehabilitation of water supply dams and weirs in Ghana, including also measures, both structural and non-structural, to improve dam safety. It is expected that invitations for bid will be made by September 19, 2008
4. Prequalification will be conducted through prequalification procedures specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, (May 2004 revised October 2006), and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries, as defined in the guidelines.
5. To be pre-qualified for bidding for the Works, a firm or a joint venture, among other things, need to have experience over the last 5 years of at least two similar construction contracts, each with a value equal to USD 4.0 million, have average turnover of construction activities equal to at least USD 5.0 million over the last 5 years and have liquid assets or access to credit equal to at least USD 1 million for this contract.
6. Interested eligible applicants may obtain further information from and inspect the prequalification document at the Project Management Unit, Room 304, Ghana Water Company Ltd, 28th February Road, opposite Independence Square, P. O. Box MB194, Accra, from 08:00 Hrs GMT to 17:00 Hrs GMT each working day.
7. A complete set of the prequalification document in English may be purchased by interested applicants on submission of a written application to the address below, and upon payment of a nonrefundable fee of One hundred Ghana Cedis or its equivalent in United States Dollars. The method of payment will be direct transfer to the following account numbers, i.e. (i) Dollar Account: Barclays Bank (Gh) Ltd, High Street, Accra, Ghana, Account Number 1259470 and (ii) Cedi Account: Barclays Bank (Gh) Ltd, High Street, Accra, Ghana, Account Number 1588960, direct cash payment in the specified currencies against receipt at the address below or a certified cheque. The document will be sent by surface mail, or by courier services.
8. Applications for prequalification should be submitted in sealed envelopes, delivered to the address below by July 21, 2008 and be clearly marked “Application to Pre-qualify for Dam Safety Improvement and Rehabilitation Project, Contract DRP-C1”.
