SECTION II: OBJECT OF THE CONTRACT
II.1) DESCRIPTION

II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Scottish Hydro
Electric Transmission Limited (SHETL) is intending to install an HVDC link
between the Shetland Isles and the Scottish Mainland to link the planned
windfarm developments and the Scottish Mainland transmission system. It is
intended to place a contract in 2010 with a view to being operational by
2013 / 2014.
It is intended to install approximately 300 km of HVDC cabling along a
predetermined route between Blackhillock in Moray and Shetland with a
converter station at each end.
The procurement options under consideration by SHETL include a single
'Design and Build' type contract for the complete scheme as well as
separate contract packages for the HVDC Cables and the HVDC Converter
Stations. The choice of technology will be left open to the respective
bidders.
SHETL are inviting interested bodies to respond to this notice to be
selected for prequalification. SHETL will only accept applications from
companies with experience and proven track record of designing, building
and installing HVDC Converter systems or HVDC Submarine Cabling with
ratings in excess of 300MW.
