II.1) DESCRIPTION

Radiation Shields (ALMA Project).

II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): This contract
is to manufacture thermal radiation shields predominantly fabricated from
stainless steel and aluminium / aluminium alloy.
These shields are required as a component part of cryostats for ALMA
Project.
ALMA (The Atacama Large Millimeter Array).
Is the largest and most complex radio inferometer ever constructed and is
the foremost instrument for studying the cool universe, including relic
radiation of the big bang and details of star and planet formation.
The contractor shall assign a dedicated ALMA Radiation Shield Project
Manager for this contract who will be in control of all aspects of the
contract and project management including personnel, resources,
sub-contractors and suppliers.
Sheet metal components can be rolled from formed material instead of
fabricated if the manufacturer is confident that the same tolerances can
be achieved.
