II.1.4) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): The NHSBT
intends to place a contract for whole blood and component collection and
processing systems. Such systems may fall into one or more of the
following categories: a) Blood collection systems suitable for the
collection and processing of donated whole blood. Primary collection
systems must be suitable for the collection of a mean blood volume of 470
ml and for subsequent processing into red cells and plasma or into red
cells, buffy coat and plasma. b) Automated collection of blood components
to include platelets, red cells and plasma and potentially any combination
of these components from a single donor. c) Automated whole blood
processing systems to allow automated component preparation from a single
unit of whole blood. d) Secondary blood component processing consumables
such as platelet pooling and filtration systems, transfer packs, platelets
support medium etc. Please note that the NHSBT requires all blood
components to be leucodepleted with the exception of white cell enriched
components (granulocytes etc). Leucodepletion and other blood component
specifications are required to meet the standards as laid down in the BSQR
2005/50 regulations and also in the UK Guidelines for the Blood
Transfusion Services (current edition).
