II.1.4) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): Kent County
Council (the Council) is the largest local authority in England covering
an area of 3,500 square kilometres. It has an annual expenditure of over
1bn GBP on goods and services and a population of 1 300 000. The Council
provides a wide range of personal and strategic services on behalf of its
residents, operating in partnership with 12 district councils and 289
parish/town councils. In April 2006 the new Children, Families and
Education Directorate (CFE) brought together Education and Children's
Social Services. The new Directorate will ensure the delivery of coherent
integrated education and social care services to children and young
people, their families and the communities of Kent in line with the
Children Act 2004. It will deliver the CFE contribution to the Children
and Young Peoples Plan, the Kent Local Area Agreement and work with other
Directorates and partners through Children's Trust arrangements to provide
the best possible services and outcomes for the children and young people
of Kent. Purchasing Services Group have been commissioned to act on behalf
of Children Families and Education for the tendering and contracting of
their requirement for Vocational Learning Facilities. The Council are
looking to install Vocational Learning Facilities into four
schools/colleges in the Kent area and are seeking companies with the
ability to provide a complete solution for said requirements based on the
specification as detailed in the Requirement section of this tender
document (section III). The successful applicant will be responsible for
delivering, installing and on-going maintenance of all equipment and
services as specified. The 4 schools/colleges are:- Holmesdale Technical
College, Snodland Maidstone Boys Grammar School, Maidstone Sittingbourne
Community College, Sittingbourne Walmer Science College, Walmer Each
school/college will have its own bespoke system offering a variety of
learning methods incorporating integrated Virtual Learning Environments
(VLE), hands-on practical work and multi-media rich software for delivery
via the VLE. The facilities will also be designed to be flexible in their
operation. Offering a mix of teacher led lessons, student centred projects
and Internet based study programmes allowing students and staff the
ability to drop-in on a flexible schedule Education services.Office and
