The World Bank intends to finance the assignment/services described below under a trust fund from the ADDRESSING INDOOR AIR POLLUTION IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA.
The services are expected to include:
• designing and conducting household surveys of fuel use, housing conditions, time-activity patterns, monitoring of baseline household air pollution and health status; • monitoring and analysis of changes in household air pollution, changes in time-activity patterns of household members, changes in consequent exposure to household air pollution and related health outcomes, as a result of a set of interventions to be identified, including behavior change, improved ventilation and stoves, and fuel-switching from biomass to ethanol and other fuels; • comparison of the cost-effectiveness of the identified interventions in reducing exposure to household air pollution and improving health outcomes; • assessment of the economic viability of the proposed national program to promote ethanol as a household fuel, including economic analysis of likely land-use changes, costs of production and distribution, and benefits of switching from fuelwood use; • desk review of the cost-effectiveness and health benefits of other programs in Africa that aim to reduce exposure to household air pollution either as a primary or secondary goal, along with lessons learnt from such programs for scaling-up successful initiatives.

Submission Requirements: The World Bank now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.).
Consultants may associate to enhance their qualifications.

Following this invitation for Expression of Interest, a shortlist of qualified firms will be formally invited to submit proposals. Shortlisting and selection will be subject to the availability of funding.
